This is worthy of sharing but not sure if its the right entry point. I'm using the Command Line Interpreter 'BASH' to write Scripts (BAT files to Microsoft users) to read input signals sent to the General Purpose Input Output port on the RPi. On making decisions based on the data, it sends a signal out to a hardware controller. At the moment is works to detect when the sun is strong enought to offer enough power to a batch of Solar Panels to turn on a 2.7Kw Immersion Heater = free hot water. ____ Its a general purpose solution so can do a lot more complex control systems, but all the software and external hardware works ! If anyone is interested I can share all the 'Howto' Information. : ) Tim From jc2k_1 at hotmail.com Sat Feb 16 18:35:05 2013 From: jc2k_1 at hotmail.com (J C) Date: Sat, 16 Feb 2013 18:35:05 +0000 Subject: [Swansea Hackspace] What do you want from a hackspace? Message-ID: Hi all, I'd never heard the term hackspace before until today when it was covered on BBC Click!Glad to see there's interest in the Swansea area. I took Electronic & Electrical Engineering in Swansea uni and have been in Software Engineering for public & private sector for a few years now. I've got a fair stock of components I'd be willing to share when we get a venue, and some experience in web development if you would like to add some features to the website (project lists, component/equipment lists, member profiles, discussion boards, chat rooms etc.) I think it would be useful to arrange some informal meet ups - maybe a pub somewhere or the dining room at Swansea uni's Fulton House block (lots of space + coffee) - just for us to get to know each other and bat around some ideas. How about the first Saturday of every month, for instance? In terms of getting more people interested, how about a Facebook group, flyers in uni's engineering/comp sci departments, collages and schools...that sort of thing. It might be nice to get some contact with other hackspace groups, see what they've done to spread the word. I agree that an informal meetup will be a good idea, and I've taken the liberty to set up a Doodle at: http://doodle.com/s9mb43sq5x696v2a that we can use to indicate suitable times to meet up in March, without spamming everyone on the mailing list. Regarding possible locations: - Swansea Creative Hub (http://swanseacreativehub.com/) is a newish development on High Street that seem to be amenable to art/co-working/metalworking/etc. - The City Council's "Vacant or Available Commercial Land & Property Register" (http://www.swansea.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=2535) might be a good place to start looking Cheers, Gerrit -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I read through http://hackspace.org.uk/view/Starting_a_Hackerspace and thought it will be a good idea if we just socialise/hack together instead of trying to plan how we'll build the hackerspace, as most of that can be organised/discussed on the mailing list instead. We still need a venue for the meetup - does anybody know of a nice pub that will let us use their back room or won't mind laptops etc.?
