It's near the castle, on the stretch of road between Wind St. and High St. Parking in nearby Park Tawe is free for 3 hours. Only three people actually confimed their attendance, so I haven't booked a table: I assume more than this will actually turn up, so hopefully the restaurant will have space, or we'll go somewhere else. If this happens we'll wait until 7:20 for stragglers to turn up before moving on. See you all this evening, Tom Lloyd -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... I've been working in eCommerce for 14 off and on years. Been playing around with hardware and various toys most of my life. This project to start a Hackspace looks really good. So once I'm settled I will hopefully get to meet a few (and try to help out). Some of my projects can be seen on my website if anybody is interested. My consoles aren't jailbreaked though, and the one that used to is still undergoing repairs, so I can't test what I've built. I'm looking forward to hear from owners of jailbreaked PS3s, so that I could polish up the port and release it as a ready-to-use product. As of now, the game is freshly recompiled from its PC codebase and will likely require a file manager to supply art assets into it. The usb-serial port that we were abusing for power is a PL2303HX http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/321090000590 The Programming device i was using was a PICkit 2 Official ones can be quite expensive, but there are many cheap clone versions that work just the same. The handout went through all the steps for writing the software, other than the (hopefuly obvious) step of clicking 'build' the reason i was using the hex file is that the pickit 2 driver thats built into mplab doesn't believe it can talk to a 12F1840, but the stand alone (seperate download) one does. mplab believes you need a pickit 3 for that device, but they may well update the software eventually. It would be nice to hear some suggestions of things we could try in future workshops. I have a variety of sensors and devices that i have plans and ideas around, the USB-Serial ports you saw at the workshop, dallas 1-wire temperature sensors, the ws2811 based LED strip lights, and some newly arrived 6-axis accelerometer/gyro sensors. ' I'd vote for Pic A/D experiment and we had logic 0 to 5/3.3V example on the very enjoyable recent meeting. The same 12F1840 has A/D capability (?). Given that 2 hours seems comfortable for all concerned the learning curve on getting the computer and hardware going will take less time, so more time for experimenting. : )) Tim_1 On 20 June 2013 11:26, wrote: > Send Hackspace mailing list submissions to > hackspace at swansea.hackspace.org.uk > > To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit > http://stoneship.org.uk/mailman/listinfo/hackspace > or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to > hackspace-request at swansea.hackspace.org.uk > > You can reach the person managing the list at > hackspace-owner at swansea.hackspace.org.uk > > When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific > than "Re: Contents of Hackspace digest..." > > > Today's Topics: > > 1. From justin at discordia.org.uk Sun Jun 23 20:41:16 2013 From: justin at discordia.org.uk (Justin Mitchell) Date: Sun, 23 Jun 2013 20:41:16 +0100 Subject: [Swansea Hackspace] PIC Workshops Message-ID: <1372016476.6126.17.camel@emerald.geode.org.uk> i have been investigating bootloaders for use with the 12f1840 and other chips. It looks entirely feasible to lose just 100 - 300 words (of the 4K word) program memory to a bootloader, which will allow people to re-program their devices at will without needing a dedicated programmer device, just using the usb-serial port devices we were using. So i am looking to put together another workshop for the near future, which will utilise a bootloader, talk through the serial port, and perhaps play with analog inputs. Would people be interested if i also offered the chance to keep the kit of parts after the workshop for cost ? Many many thanks to all who helped me and my very aged XP laptop tp achieve this ! Stupid question:- Will the same 'C' source code still work on the 12F609 which costs 61p delivered or the 12F615 which costs 88p delivered ? I realise the line which say '12F1840' will need changing. Many thanks again especially to Justin who arranged the last HackSpace meeting ! ! ! More or less. Those chips are broadly similar, but have less features. so depends if you need those features. A quick attempt at a comparison table 12f1840 12f615 12f609 prog mem 4K 1K 1K ram 256 64 64 max MHz 32 8 8 analog a2d yes yes no serial/uart yes no no spi/i2c yes no no As you can see they are lower spec devices, so consider what the project you want to use them for needs. As for building cointoss on them, they all have the internal pull-ups, and internal clock oscillators, so apart from fixing the include file and adjusting the xtal frequency statement, it should just work.
