Could everyone please post their ideas and requests for skill-share workshops. These can be old ones you'd like to see again, suggestions for new ones, or some skill you would like to share with others. It doesn't have to be a topic we have covered before, it can be pretty much anything that we have the space and facilities to do. If you can all try to post something then we will pick out the most popular/interesting ideas and get them scheduled. thanks From nhackett1 at gmail.com Fri Jun 3 10:40:30 2016 From: nhackett1 at gmail.com (Nathan Hackett) Date: Fri, 3 Jun 2016 10:40:30 +0100 Subject: [Swansea Hackspace] Request for workshop ideas In-Reply-To: <1464883275.15922.6.camel@swansea.hackspace.org.uk> References: <1464883275.15922.6.camel@swansea.hackspace.org.uk> Message-ID: Personally I'd love a 'non-microcontroller electronics' workshop. I'm fine with digital stuff but have huge gaps in my understanding when it comes to discrete circuits. We could have some theory and a bit of breadboarding over a few sessions. Since joining Hackspace I have been able to build a 3D printer and have just flown my first self-built quadcopter (not complete yet). Thank you to the space and members for helping me make these things happen. I would personally like to see a workshop on jewellery making, chains, enamelling, wire work, etc. I would also be interested in how many people are looking at monetising their interests in making and whether we could run a workshop on how to achieve it. Thanks for all the effort and for making the Hackspace possible. Many thanks, Richard On Thursday, 2 June 2016, Justin Mitchell wrote: > With the robot workshops done and dusted, and negotiations to move > seemingly taking forever, its about time we had some more workshops. > > Could everyone please post their ideas and requests for skill-share > workshops. > > These can be old ones you'd like to see again, suggestions for new ones, > or some skill you would like to share with others. It looks like we will be staying where we are for the moment, as all of the properties we were looking at have fallen through for one reason or another. We now have a working door buzzer again, we have the top button on each panel, there should be hackspace logos on it, at least until they fall off again. We can now order more keyfobs. Any member that does not currently have a fob, and would like to get 24hr access to the space, please email me so i can put together an order. Issuing a new fob costs ?15 Any ideas on ways to improve the current space and make the most of what we have are gratefully received. We will cover the tools and equipment you need, how to shape and form the wire, how to combine different types of beads to make for example earrings, necklaces and bracelets. The various types of wire will be provided, along with a selection of beads in various materials from glass and plastic through to semi precious stones. You will require a pair of Round Nose pliers to work with, also a pair of Chain Nose jewellery (ie without serrated grip) pliers is recommended. plus wire snips are useful, flush cut ones for preference. These can be bought online easily, also from local crafting stores (e.g. Hobbycraft, The Range, etc). We suggest this set for ?4.99 or any similar: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm//311405311604 You are welcome to bring children, we have a range of beads and threading materials so that even the younger ones can make their own bracelets, whilst older children are welcome to try the wire techniques with the adults. As a bonus, if you have that set, then the right most and left most pliers are the pair i use most when doing chainmaille jewellery, which i am sure to run as a workshop in the coming months. The ones you absolutely require for this workshop are the ones in the centre of the picture, that are two tapered cones.
