Would love to be able to pick up two of these for the space, we could have one 'pointing outside' with a nice useful clock, date, temperature etc, for passers by, and another one for the indoor message-board. Can only really stretch to one panel though. I'll wait 'til Monday night before I put the order in, in case someone else wants one of the smaller units or something. In any case I'll need help getting it up and running from some of the more competent sparkies among us. :D

There's one thing cooler than a flip-dot display, and that's a split-flap display. David,
Your idea about the social message board is fantastic! I've got my
hands full with this high tide project until maybe October, but if
this idea of yours goes ahead and still needs help around then I
would be really happy to join in with it.
In any case I would definitely take an interest from the sidelines.
you can hear it changing without adding a sounder. This is one

Hi all, thanks for the replies! I work overnight
Fri and Sat so I'm afraid I posted my message then went straight
to bed sorry!

David you're right we could fabricate something similar,
but it would probably end up much more expensive for a panel
this size. 96x16 pixels at £200 is an incredible 13p per
flip-dot. There's more than enough hacking to do to get them
connected anyway. It might be cool to attempt some 7-segment
mechanical displays though? Much more manageable for a DIY
project.

The guy also has some nice looking 20x14 units for £64.99
which maybe someone is interested in? Ultimately I'll be
picking up one of these myself regardless - it seems the
technology is being superseded by LEDs and I want to get one
before they all disappear.

Brian your point about shop displays is precisely why I
started looking for these in the first place... ;-)

Wow! I don't think I've ever seen these
before. I mean... Of course I've seen them on the
buses, but I didn't actually realise they worked
like this.

This seems like it might be an ideal
display for my high tide early warning project, as
I had been worried about the problem of direct
sunlight for a regular LED dot matrix display.

The same seller has several different sizes
listed, all auctions ending today. I've
contacted him and he's offered £200 (inc
postage) for one 96x16 panel or £350 for two,
so if there's anyone that wants to split an
order with me and save some money that'd be
great. Seems expensive, but look how cool
these things are...
