Hey!
Really glad someone has taken up the torch on this endeavour and happy to be a part of it. My goals are similar, I'd like to see a hackspace where I can hang out with fellow folk from software and hardware developers through self taught engineers to crafty types, contributing what I can along the way. I'd also like to see such a space offer out to the general community free workshops too, so for example on 3D printing (like most I can't afford one solely but as a community I'm sure we could), or hacking together a Pi to control all your home appliances, etc.
Also having two young boys, I'd like to see them involved as much as possible too, so family friendly is a must. ... That doesn't mean Health and Safety zeal though; how will they learn engineering skills if they never get to build stuff? :)

Diolch yn fawr,

I think it's a great idea, and was actually discussing the possibilities of starting one up with my fiancé over the weekend. Imagine my surprise when I discovered that Justin set up a mailing list and website around the same time! :)

I bought the necessary tools and components from Farnell and Maplin, and started soldering a board I got for free a while ago. Unfortunately I realised halfway through the project that I was missing two SMT capacitors, and discovered it's seemingly impossible to buy SMT components in Swansea. Shipping from Farnell is not worthwhile if you're only looking for two tiny components, and I don't have the funds to buy reels just yet. That got me thinking that if I had access to a hackspace, we could share reels between us.
