[Swansea Hackspace] Accessing laptop without video

i have a laptop that has no video it seems. An external screen does not work. So it isnt the screen itself. I have an identical model with partly broken screen that does work like this.

The laptop runs ubuntu and is booting and I can log in with the password blind and it responds to pings on my internal network.

I can obviously try swapping around the hard disk.

However, before then is there anything any one can suggest that I can easily do perhaps by typing in commands carefully and blindly to get access to the files across a network

Telnet ssh etc.

Alternatively is there any other method to add to my knowledge of what is working.Where i am what is going on etc without being able to use video.

Any help would be welcome.
