Clearly you have never watched any of Andreas Spiess' youtube videos :)
He got over 100km between a handheld LoRa node and an outdoor mountain
top gateway site, but that was in switzerland which has plenty of
mountains to help out with the line of sight.

There is a project in progress to install public LoRa nodes in south
wales, a friend of mine Richard Wenner is involved, based in Cardiff.

The hackspace was offered a gateway and antenna to run a swansea node,
but alas we dont have roof access, so other sites are being
investigated. I will try and get hold of him and point him at this
discussion.
