It's PVC that you can't use due to the poisonous fumes (chlorine)

Polycarbonate is different, the window in the laser cutter is likely
polycarbonate because it absorbs IR light extremely well.

How well it will engrave i do not know, there are suggestions that it
can discolour when being cut, but little in the way of reference for
engraving other than its possible. so, as always, try to test on a
scrap piece first.
