[Swansea Hackspace] 3d printer

That makes sense. 3d printing does by its nature lie closer to the
"project" end of the spectrum anyway.

I've only had experience with printer kits on the RepRap side of things,
which is on a whole other level. So at the end of the day it comes down to
what the society values more: Putting a (apparently simple) kit together,
or buying a fully assembled version (but still having to set it up and get
it working)
