I guess one of the first things to decide upon is what to choose as a platform.

If people are in agreement, There is a PI in my box with PIGame installed that could be used for the project.

It is low power compared to a pc setup, has hd graphics, gpio and wont involve any any outlay from the 'space. It also means that the cabinet will not have to support a large weight of a desktop pc. Also no fan noise YAY!!!
